Confirm the system requirements

Decide who should receive notifications and what type of event matters, such as a door opening or remaining open. A sensor is a convenience device, not a replacement for locks, alarms, or other safety measures.
Test the door and mounting gap
Close the door and identify a flat place where the sensor and magnet can face each other. The pieces must remain within the specified gap when closed but separate clearly when opened. Check that molding, weatherstripping, or a raised panel will not push them out of alignment. Temporarily hold the pieces in place and open the door fully to confirm they will not collide.
Prepare the surface and test first
Clean and dry the mounting areas according to the adhesive instructions. Pair the sensor and test its response before permanent installation. After mounting, open and close the door several times and verify that each state appears correctly. Keep the device away from moving hardware and note how its battery is accessed so replacement remains easy.
